EA Sports (TM) Cricket 2007 Description

Cricket 07 is a cricket simulation computer game from EA Sports, which, like its predecessor Cricket 2005 was developed by HB Studios, and is available for Windows and PlayStation 2.
The 2007 edition of cricket world cup is just round the corner. While the teams prepare for the start of their world cup campaign, there could not be a better time to do a quick review of latest EA Sports offering for the billions of cricket fans across the world. While watching your favorite cricketers battle it out for the ultimate prize in world cricket, you’ll often feel the urge to be at their place and experience it on your own. That is where a game like EA Sports Cricket 2007 comes in handy and allows you to go through all the anguish and glory witnessed by those cricketers.

This edition of the game, released days before the beginning of The Ashes comes in a 2CD pack. The installation is straight forward and usual EA Sports setup. There is nothing extraordinary here. Once the game is installed, you get down to the business and a serious one at that. You’ll be greeted with another customary EA Sports Cricket interface. No shocks here and no visible changes from the last edition either. The interface is good, clean, simple and easy to navigate though sometimes you get the feeling that there’s no way you can reach certain parts with that keyboard of yours. It is indeed frustrating but the good old mouse comes to the rescue.

Features of EA Sports (TM) Cricket 2007

Cricket 07 features a number of game types, including limited overs matches (50, 20, 10 or 5 overs), 4-day first-class matches and full-length test matches. You may select different pitches and different weather conditions in different venues.[1] Several international venues are available, including the Eden Gardens in India or Lord's in England. The venues vary in conditions and pitch type, and these can be changed by the player.

The best feature of Cricket 07 was improved player control and easy stroke play. Introduction of Ashes section was also an attractive feature. There was also an addition in commentary department as Mark Nicholas had joined Richie Benaud.
Despite of very easy game-play, certain flaws were quite predictable. Play exhibited by PC was so lethargic that even if the PC needed 20 runs of 4 balls, it would exhibit a defensive play which was frustrating for the controller.
Some flaws in the game-play include:
Decisions of Umpire are horrific particularly the wide balls and the lbw decisions.
Fast bowlers like Brett Lee and Shoaib Akhtar can consistently bowl at 160 km/hr.
When the ball hits the pads of batsman, falls in front of the wickets and batsman attempts a run; wicketkeeper doesn't move, rather a fielder from short third man comes to pick the ball. In the mean time run is successfully completed.
When a flight ball is bowled with the Off spinner and aimed directly at the stumps, the ball goes over the head of the batsman and hits the stumps and make him out.
Sometimes the ball goes through the wickets or the wicketkeeper and it may also go for a boundary.
The batsmen are given stumped out, even after getting back into the crease after attempting to play the ball coming down the crease.
